Paul Steward is an award-winning singer and guitarist hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area. For over two decades, he has fronted the band Twice As Good as its lead vocalist and guitarist. His 2022 solo debut album earned him the nickname "the world champion," propelling him on tours across the U.S. and internationally. Paul’s music fuses Blues, R&B, Pop, and Native American sounds—a heartfelt tribute to his Elem Pomo tribal roots. Inspired by legends like B.B. King, Robert Randolph, Al Green, and Bruno Mars, he delivers powerful, soulful vocals paired with smooth, melodic guitar lines that keep crowds dancing. His artistry has earned him multiple honors, including the 2010 Native American Music Award, 2010 West Coast Blues Hall of Fame Award, 2013 Indian Summer Music Award, and the 2016 NorBay Music Award. He was a featured performer at the 2024 Recording Academy (the Grammys) San Francisco Chapter annual membership mixer and celebration.

From Paul:

I was born on a Thursday, December 20th, 1984 in Wine Country California; raised on Elem Indian Colony Sulphur Bank Rancheria. Moved to Santa Rosa, CA as a teenager. I love music! Been singing and playing my whole life.

My dad gave me the gift of music, he got me a toy piano when I was little, he taught me to play guitar at age 13. We traveled all over America sharing that music.

Besides leading the band with my dad, Twice As Good, I have performed and recorded with artists such as Jacques Wilkens, Ras K'dee and Audiopharmacy, Charlie Musselwhite, Big Bill Morganfield, Freddie Hughes, The Bay Area Blues Society Caravan of Allstars, and Robert Watson (the bassist/guitarist). I played guitar and sang for 6+ years in the House of Refuge Fellowship church band under Pastor Don Wesley of the Pentecostal Christian traditions from Louisiana and the SF Bay Area.

I sing, play guitar, bass, saxophone, harmonica, keyboards, drums, trumpet, violin, and make beats. I've studied music at the University of Nevada, Reno; Santa Rosa Junior College; and Sonoma State University; from such great teachers as Ed Corey, Mark Anderman, Bennett Friedman, Doug Leibinger; and Randy Vincent.

My musical favorites and influences are: the one and only, B.B. King! Luther Allison, Magic Slim, George Benson, Joe Louis Walker, Robert Randolph, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Santana. As a singer I like: Freddie Hughes, the O'Jays, Jackie Payne, Wilson Pickett, Rafael Saadiq, the Temptations, and all those who choose to share the joy and power of vocal expression.
